RIVERSIDE GARDENS
Riverside Gardens will form the heart of Smithfield Riverside, bringing new life to the area through a vibrant urban green space with trees and planting, while supporting improved biodiversity in the town centre.
Part of the redevelopment will include some raised terraced seating looking towards the River Severn and the Welsh Bridge on one side and overlooking the Recreational Space on the other. The Recreational Space is an open area to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the town centre, the perfect spot to eat lunch or meet up with friends, with the potential for outdoor food vendors to operate there.
The section further along towards the town centre will feature a play area and climbing boulder for children and adults of all ages.
Riverside Gardens will be planted with both new and established trees and plants for pollinators - boosting biodiversity in the town centre and providing shade during the summer. The park will collect surface water runoff into Rain Gardens, which will create new habitats for birds and invertebrates, and help to alleviate surface water flooding in the area.
